Although I currently live in Indianapolis and work in Chicago I just couldn't get into the Super Bowl this year. I was born in Pittsburgh and lived there until I was 29 so I bleed black and gold. But it wasn't just that. I've gotten into previous SB's where I didn't have a dog in the fight.
But usually there was some other factor at play. Either an intense hatred of one of the teams (Cowgirls, Brownies, Bungles) or admiration for a player or coach (Favre, Shula, Montana). This game held neither for me. People ask,
"How can you not root for Manning?"
Please. Manning's a prima donna who never takes responsibility for his losses. Just refer to last year's post-choke quote:
"Let’s just say we had some problems in protection."
I have an idea Peyton, instead of throwing your O-line under the train, let's just say the Steelers rush was unstoppable. What a teammate.
I could have gone for Indy because of Dungy's Steeler connections but my disdain for Manning prevented me from getting behind them. Still I'm happy for Tony. He deserved this win.
Chicago has who? What? Erlacher? I like the way he plays but he's not the type of player that makes me want to see his team win. He's one of those guys that you'd take a bullet for while he's on your team but you just hate him when he's on someone else's. Kind of like Joey Porter. Lovie still has some dues to pay before I'll get on his bandwagon. And Grossman? He starts off with one strike against him in my book for being a Spurrier protege. I mean the boy played high school ball in Bloomington Indiana. What's wrong with IU, Purdue or Notre Dame for God's sake (no pun intended).
So bottom line, I just was not excited about the game. I ended up watching the game at a neighbor's Super Bowl Party (in Indy). I felt a little weird with everyone screaming and flipping out at every minor success or setback. I felt like saying "Take it easy! This game is not that good." Then I realized that this was exactly what I must have looked like at last year's Super Bowl party in Pittsburgh with fifty of my crazed fellow 'Burghers. I was probably worse, actually. I don't think a single person at this year's party had completely lost their voice by the end of the game.
Was this some sort of epiphany for me? Will I show a little more decorum the next time the Steelers are in the big game? Hell no! The next time the Steelers make the Super Bowl I intend to be at the game. I'll be the one with no shirt, painted Black and Gold from head to toe, screaming "Here we go Steelers, here we go!" with an Iron City in my hand. I'll just have a better understanding of how foolish I look, that' all.

The Lesser of Two Evils - 2008
Joe Biden has raised the bar for presidential campaign implosions. Biden's may not have been quite as spectacular or quotable as Howard Dean's 2004 "Eeeeeyahhhhh!!!", but he has certainly set the new speed record. To the best of my knowledge, no candidate has ever announced and destroyed his presidential candidacy in the same day. Impressive.
EPHEMERA Announces a 50% Increase in Posts
Well, my first post was accurate. I'm not very good at keeping up with a blog/journal. It's not like I haven't been busy. Since the hurricane I've quit my job in Florida, moved to Indiana, built a house, quit my new job in Indiana and started working in Chicago while still living in Indiana. (Yes, the commute is a bitch.) I'll try to do better, which shouldn't be too difficult given that I'm currently averaging 1 post per year .

Rainy Monday
Going into our third straight day of rain following a dry spell that's been going on since Ivan left us. Went back out to Pensacola Beach yesterday to collect more stuff: toaster, more clothes, sheets, Roomba, tools and some sentimental stuff from the flooded storage room on the ground floor. Conducted an inventory of the storage room as well for the insurance adjuster. It was pretty rough out at the beach as we were experiencing the outer edges of tropical storm Matthew. Here are some pics of the cars in the water behind my condo.

First Post
I've never been much for keeping a diary or a journal but I like the idea of it. Probably won't post very often; I tend to procrastinate. I've always been impressed by people with the discipline to write in their journals every day, without fail. Though it makes me think they have too much time on their hands.
I am currently without internet service at home thanks to Ivan but should be back online within a week or two. I'll post a little Ivan history at that point.
